Autodesk’s New Buying Process: What You Might Not Know (But Should)

Autodesk’s new buying process introduced new options and flexibility that many customers may not be aware of.  Below are a few helpful “you don’t know what you don’t know” insights designed to help you get the most value from your Autodesk subscriptions.

Co-Terming

If you need to add additional subscriptions, you can co-term and prorate them to match an existing expiration date. This allows all your subscriptions to renew at the same time, simplifying budgeting and renewal management.

Future Start Dates

Have a new employee starting soon but want to complete the purchase now? Autodesk allows you to set a future start date up to 30 days after the purchase date. This gives your accounting team flexibility while ensuring the subscription activates closer to when it’s actually needed—and may even reduce costs through prorating.

Product Switching at Renewal

If you’re currently using AutoCAD, for example, but are considering Revit, Civil 3D, or even the AEC Collection, you can now switch products at renewal. This makes it easier to adapt your software stack as your business needs evolve.

Multi-Year Subscriptions with Annual Payments

Previously, committing to a three-year term meant paying for all three years up front. Now, you can lock in the cost savings of a three-year subscription while still making annual payments. Ask your sales representative about the pros and cons to determine if a multi-year term makes sense for your organization.

Changing Subscription Term Length

At renewal, you can switch between annual and three-year terms, giving you flexibility as budgets or project demands change.  You can also mix annual and three-year subscriptions as needed.

Subscription Extensions

If your subscription is set to expire in February, for example, but an October renewal better aligns with your fiscal calendar, the subscription can be extended at renewal to move the expiration date to October.

Auto-Renew Settings

Auto-renew is enabled by default for all new and existing subscriptions in the new system. If you prefer to review or adjust your subscriptions before renewal, you can turn auto-renew off. Keep in mind that if you add a new subscription, auto-renew will be turned on for that subscription until you disable it.

Returns & Refunds

If you need to return a subscription, simply submit the request within 30 days of your purchase or renewal date to receive a full refund. Return requests must be initiated by the customer using the contact us link. Additional details are available in the Returns & Refunds section of Customer Help. Once approved, refunds are typically processed within 5–7 business days.
